 About Our Minister

Rev. Julie Kain was unanimously called to be the settled minister of the UU Church of Pensacola in May, 2006. Julie is currently on the board for the Interfaith Housing Coalition of Northwest Florida and is President of the Florida Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.

Before coming to Pensacola, Julie served UU churches in San Diego, Berkeley, and Grass Valley, California. Julie became a UU and was an active lay leader with the Eno River UU Fellowship in Durham, North Carolina. Julie and her daughter, Caroline, lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for 13 years while Julie worked as a dining room manager for an upscale northern Italian restaurant.

She attended Starr King School for the Ministry, a UU seminary in Berkeley, graduating in 2002. Originally from Indiana, Julie was very active as a youth in the Presbyterian Church. She attended Earlham College (Quaker, Society of Friends) in Richmond, Indiana for undergraduate studies in Community Development. At Earlham, Julie was a jazz disc jockey on the school NPR radio station and was awarded for her work as student coordinator of Amnesty International.

Julie met her husband, Rudy Camacho, in San Diego where they were married. They both love music, good food, the nearby beach at Perdido Key, visiting New Orleans, and other travel destinations. Julie's daughter, Caroline Thaxton, lives in San Francisco and works in a genetics research lab. Since Julie's arrival at UUCP, her mother and brother have also made Pensacola their home.
